In this heartfelt interview, Susanne speaks with Marylou Coffey, sister of Marilyn Sorochan. 

Marylou shares her deeply personal experience of caring for her sister during the final months of her life.  Through her story, she reflects on what it means to step into the role of a caregiver without a medical background, guided by love, presence, and intuition.

She speaks about the decision to bring her sister home from the hospital, and how being surrounded by family, familiar comforts, and real-life moments created a sense of peace, dignity, and healing in those final days. 

This conversation offers gentle insights into the emotional journey of caregiving, the power of human connection, and the profound life lessons that can emerge during life’s most tender transitions.

In This video, I am in conversation with a woman who is living through stage four cancer. Her name is Marilyn Sorochan, a much-loved retired teacher from York Region Catholic School Board in Ontario.

Marilyn and I first met as young teachers over fifty-five years ago. Since receiving her diagnosis some months back, she has inspired me with her serenity and appreciation for the gift of life. When others who have known her as mother, friend, colleague or teacher speak of her, without exception, they look on her as someone they feel privileged to know. 

Marilyn’s life has not been without challenges, yet she has been able to set aside hurts and disappointments and embrace the joys of life. 

Although Marilyn is enduring the ravages of terminal cancer, she faces this monumental milestone with remarkable grace and dignity. 

I know that you will find that her faith, acceptance and resilience amidst the challenges are truly inspirational.
