Susanne began her career as an elementary teacher and a Curriculum Coordinator before becoming an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, York University, Toronto, Ontario Canada. Susanne holds Doctor of Education, Master of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Toronto. Over her long career, Susanne provided leadership to educators across Canada as a teacher, author, consultant and staff developer. Among her achievements, she is a past President of the Canadian Association for Young Children and past Chair of the Board of Governors, Seneca College, Toronto Ontario. Susanne’s personal story of healing and personal transformation is woven throughout the book, to inspire others to approach the gift of aging with optimism and purpose. What began as a search to find a cure for chronic illness, became a journey of healing from the inside. Although not a medical professional, her story, informed by current research and qualitative data collection, illustrates that if you are willing to take responsibility for your health and wellbeing, the strategies described in this book have the potential to improve the quality of your life at all levels, physical, mental, and spiritual.
Healing from the Inside: Living Fully as You Age (second edition) 2025.
This book has the dual focus of health and aging. The first edition Healing from the Inside: Guide to Holistic Health and Healing (2023) placed the emphasis on health. From feedback, however, it became clear, that more attention needed to be paid on changing how we look at aging. For this reason, the tagline was changed and some additional content added to bring out the importance of reimagining health as a means to reimagining aging. Healing From the Inside: Living Fully as you Age, based on my personal journey. After years of struggling with chronic illness, and my frustration with treatment that was doing more harm than good, I turned to healing strategies that addressed physical health as an integral part of the whole self – body, mind and spirit. In addition to the book, I will be offering a weekly blog to provide information and practical tips for healing. Also, as in the earlier blogs, I will continue to offer some material related to issues of aging. Wishing you every blessing,
Dr. Susanne T. Eden
Healing from the Inside rests on the understanding that lasting well-being grows from within. Healing is not something that happens through pills and procedures, but something that unfolds through honest self- examination, healthy self-love, and balance. As we age, we are invited to listen more deeply to the wisdom of the body and the quiet guidance of the heart. By tending to our inner world—our thoughts, emotions, and energy we create the conditions for physical, emotional, and spiritual renewal. Aging, then, becomes not a loss, but a journey toward wholeness, presence, and inner peace.
An holistic approach to health and healing is the platform for Healing From the Inside: Living Fully as You Age. Every cell, every thought, every intuition is so interrelated that what happens in one happens in all. To live fully, therefore, requires being healthy in body, in mind and in spirit. When the self is whole, we become true to who we were intended to be.
Becoming who we ought to be is a process of life-long change. The senior years are particularly important in this journey for it is then that we are most likely to have time for self-care. We can expect to be retired from the responsibilities of a job and perhaps family and, though we may continue to carry burdens, it is a time to put our own needs first. When we take care of ourselves, if required, we have the reserves to help take care of others.
There is no one size fits all when it comes to healing and transformation. It is a journey based on personal experiences and how we deal with them. We have much more power over our health and wellbeing then our society has led us to believe. We can take back that power and become a partner in how we age. This comes down to self-care practices to do with diet, movement and mindset. To help with this, information is drawn from current research and referenced so that readers can choose which practices resonates with them and delve more fully into the many excellent sources available.
